Comparative Public Administration

Synopsis Woodrow Wilson, long ago drew attention to the importance of comparative study to enrich American public administration. Leonard D. White also called for a comparative perspective in his book published in 1930. He compared national civil services in different countries. Charles Goodsell introduced what he referred as to "new comparative administration." Thus, American scholars were responsible for internationalization of public administration. Comparative public administration as a sub-field of public administration emerged as a result of a series of comparative studies that was undertaken by western and non-western scholars since 1965. Today, no doubt, it exists as a specialised course of public administration in the USA. Comparative orientation of public administration is the latest trend in most of the Indian universities. Comparative administration study has now become one of the important branches of public administration. Comparative method has been used in studying the contemporary system of government and administration.
