Synopsis The purpose of the book "Principles of Education" is to analyse the trends in contemporary Indian education system and also to analyse that towards which direction the Indian education is progressing. On the other hand, it also lays down the broad principles on which national scheme of education should be formulated. Svadharma has been cherished the principles of India education philosophy since the ancient times to present day. Any educational system to be successful in India must be based upon fundamentals and trends exhibited by contemporary Indian educationists. The influence of western thinking upon contemporary Indian thinkers is most explicit in trends towards rationalism. Thinkers, traditionalist as well as west oriented agree about the values of reason in man's life and education. J.L. Nehru, M.N. Roy show discordant note, the influence of modern western thought upon Indian thinkers. Vivekanand, Aurobindo, Dayanand, Gandhi, Tagore and Radhakrishnan, on the other hand, follow the traditional Indian educational thought after modifying and adjusting it in contemporary situation. Nationalism inspired not only the aims and ideals but also the detailed out line of educational philosophies.
