Synopsis The government of India recognizes the importance of literacy. After the formation of popular governments since independence, a number of literacy programmes were launched with an interest eradicate illiteracy and bring the people in to the mainstream of developing society. But these efforts have not yield expected results because the planners over looked the past experience of the on going programmes. The volume consists of 28 papers and is a documentation of perspectives, reviews, strategies, research findings and experience related to literacy development. The papers are contributed by the academicians, social scientists and field experts. The book will be useful to government departments, field functionaries, scholars and implementing agencies of literacy camp.
