Synopsis This book has been designed as a introductory text which looks into the importance of value education and human right education. Value education often tends to be neglected in most schools, especially in contemporary times where the rapidly changing social context tends to negatively scrutinise the effectiveness of these values and their needs. Human rights education too is sidelined quite often, considering that many hold these rights unattainable in a world where poverty, famine and war still threaten the existence of millions of people, or even in those countries where constitutional rights are respected by the police and enforced by the courts. At any rate, however, value education and human rights education are too important to ignore, as they express the human aspiration to live in freedom and dignity. The book sets forth on a discussion of the concepts of values and human rights, especially within the present context, and what importance they hold for the average human being. In addition, it engages in a discussion of the educational process in a larger, global scenario, and compares values and human rights education of different cultural milieus within this global scenario, also making efforts to enforce their relevance today.
