Synopsis The book Towards A Theory of Information Science is a work originally published in Spanish by Prof. Emilia Curras, an internationally renowned information scientist from Spain. In this rather abridged English version of the book, the author has tried to provide a fresh approach to the theoretical foundation of information science, information theory, with its extended dimensions, has been analysed in different ways, and leading to certain perspectives. The outstanding features of this book are providing a comprehensive basis for the understanding of the concept relating to information profession. A fairly exhaustive account of the history and evolution of various concepts of librarianship and information profession, development of information science as a multi-disciplinary fast growing and fast changing subject, and an insight into the future of the information profession. There are very few books on the theory of information even in English and it is in this context that the book is a significant contribution to library literature.
