Synopsis Academic Institutions have to meet the growing challenges of the new education and training needs of the economy, the shifting demands of employers and the changing aspirations of students. To meet these challenges of expanding educational scenario, new technologies have to be embraced. Developing high quality e-learning material is resource-intensive and time-consuming. However, electronic material has the theoretical advantage to be shareable, reusable and can be modified indefinitely to adapt it to new learning or teaching requirements. There is a growing requirement for good quality, reusable e-learning material in training and educational programs. This book primarily focuses on the learning object context and the repositories. It is divided into three sections-learning objects, repositories and metadata, technology & tools-the Institutional Repositories (IR), Open Courseware (OCW) and Learning Object Repositories (LOR) and Applications-the implementation of repositories by various universities.
