Synopsis The main objective of this book is to describe the design, mechanisms, and effects of different electoral systems on national, regional and supranational levels. This study identifies, describes and classifies 12 distinct electoral systems and discusses its relationship with the larger institutional framework as well as its impact on administrative issues and it highlights in particular issues relating to the process of electoral system change. In addition, direct democracy provisions and practices are also covered within this study.
