Synopsis This collection of essays on Cervantes and his works is the outcome of an International Conference held in Delhi in 2005. Eminent experts -- Cervantistas -- from different parts of the world were engaged over three days in discussing multifarious issues related to Don Quixote and Cervantes. These essays are divided thematically. While one set reflects upon the writing of the novel and various aspects related to the theory of novel, construction of characters and position of the author; other set of essays articulate their views on varied themes discussed in this first novel. Texts negotiating the context of its time and perhaps of all the times in history are also one area looked at in these pages. Reception of Don Quixote in India and in other parts of the world forms a major section of the volume. The final section discusses the representation of Don Quixote in visual arts like painting and cinema.
