Synopsis Farming is an age-old means of livelihood, employment and sustenance for millions of Indians. There are few systems/models of farming in which farmers are assured of a market for their produce. Leave alone a remunerative price, on occasion farmers have to throw their produce away for want of buyers. Keeping this in view, the Govt. of India's national agricultural policy envisages private sector participation through contract farming and land leasing arrangements to allow accelerated technology transfer, capital inflow and assured market for crop produce, especially of oilseeds, cotton and horticulture crops.
