Synopsis The South Asian region is confronted with enormous challenges ranging from regime instability, low level of economic development, human security, mutual conflicts of nations, growing tentacles of terrorism, militarisation of political systems to arms race and nuclearisation. It is amidst these constraints the regional grouping i.e. South Asian Association of Regional Co-Operation not only addresses the different dimensions of human development strategies in South Asia in the 21 century, it also provides a forum to deliberate over the challenges it faces and seeks viable remedies of these problems. Although its viability as a strong regional forum, like ASEAN and GCC, is often questioned nevertheless SAARC has successfully established its credentials in the comity of nations. This book probes all these issues that impinge upon the political and strategic dynamics of South Asia with remarkable subtlety.
