Synopsis This ground breaking book contributes to the understanding of ageing and widowhood in the context of problems and issues of a larger social order. Ageing and marital status put women in India in a disadvantageous position who in general are subject to social and economic marginalisation and are victimised by their own family. They are viewed only as a problem and are neglected continuously. These women constitute a special concern group, especially as the proportion of widow among the elderly is high. The life of the aged widows who are economically less active and relatively more dependent is miserable and calls for effective and practical remedial measures.
