Synopsis This book attempts towards Indian foreign policy making-the actors, factors and process-in the light of recent approaches to foreign policy analysis. Focusing on two important events of recent Indian history-India-China Border War-1962, and Bangladesh Liberation War-1971-it examines Indian policy-making from a near-holistic perspective. Its three dimensional analysis lays bare the strategic calculations, organizational connections and intragovernmental politics behind the politics behind the policies adopted during these tow Border War Nehru' policies went awry due to organizational inadequacies-particularly the lack of civil military interfacing, power/policy struggle among various groups and lobbies, and his desire for consensus politics. Discounting the popular notion about Mrs. Gandhi's premeditated and planned endeavour to dismember Pakistan, it traces the growth of decision, born of domestic and international encouragement, during the Bangladesh liberation struggle.
