Synopsis Global terrorism has emerged as a horrifying reality and forceful phenomenon of the 21 century. Although, traces of its influence could be noticed in the past, the rapid growth of terrorism is a product of cold war politics and the neo-imperialist policies adopted by major powers since 1945. The last decade of the 20 century witnessed the disintegration of Soviet Union, the emergence of the unipolar world and the uneven march of globalization and liberalisation in developed and developing countries. The rise of ethno-nationalism and aggressive politics in South Asia, West Asia and Central Asia could be linked to the widening socio-economic disparities of the present day world. Terrorism is both a cause and an effect. Its roots are firmly grounded in hunger, poverty, inequality, ignorance, illiteracy, unemployment, and ethnic prejudices.
