Iconography and Art of Andhra: Lesser Known Facets

Synopsis
In the present volume it is mainly intended to make an iconographical study of the less-known temples of Karmarashtra region with special focus on the religious imagery of the Chennakesava temple at Macherla, Trivikramasvami temple at Pedda Cherukuru and Ramalingesvara temple at Satyavolu besides discussing the art and iconography of the temples of Palnad region and Nalgonda district. The study has fulfilled its objectives in bringing to light for the first time some new data and information regarding the temples dedicated to

Ardhanarisvara in the names of Anandesvara, which is a rare phenomenon in the Hindu temple traditions of India asit is installed as the main icon of the temple. Another major finding of the study is the image of Vennamudda Krishnasvamy noticed at a remote village namely Chenghizkhanpet that belongs to the Vijayanagara period. The book contains certain rare pieces of sculptures depicting Ganesa fighting with the demons and Ganesa claiming ganadhipatya noticed in the Chennakesava temple at Macherla.
