Synopsis The book aims at a broad treatment of Brown Algae and gives a general review of the characteristics dealing with morphology, development, reproduction and ultrastructural features of its members. The text is organized into 10 chapters, each with several subheadings. Each chapter opens with a general account of distribution and taxonomy. The phylogenetic affinities are given towards the end of the chapter and intend merely to afford a synopsis for the readers. Great care however, has been taken to discuss in detail the morphology, structure, ultrastructure and reproduction. Emphasis has also been laid on the prosecution of research and therefore each chapter towards the end deals with new lines of research.
