Synopsis The writing of a regular column does not automatically make someone a journalist, and a journalist does not necessarily write a column or have a regular spot in the media. There is more to learn before getting a job as a journalist, and columnists are usually approached because of what they know, who they are or what they do, not because they are qualified journalists. Expectations of journalists and columnists are therefore quite different.
