This book is the fourteenth volume in the “Library in India Series” covering Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

Under Preliminaries a brief over-view of the states with languages and literatures in vogue; A fairly comprehensive account of the history of libraries from the early period to date is given.

A perspective of the libraries and library development in these states is given as to the chronological development. Efforts for library legislation and full-texts of library acts was given under each state.

Ancillary subjects like education for librarianship, professional organization, library professionals, etc., were also comprehended. Fringe areas like archives, conservation of documents, reference sources, chronology of events, etc. are also elaborated.
