Home gardeners can purchase flower bulbs from a distant nursery through the surface mail with minimum chances of mortality. The storage roots have different forms. They may be roots or stems that grow underground. They are perennial. But the shoots that grow from them are annual. They are classified by their scientific names. According to the different forms of the storage roots they are designated with different names. However in common parlance they are called 'bulbs' or 'bulbous plants'.
