Regarding the present state of the relations between politics, the media and the public, the relevant discourses in analysis are very skeptical. There is criticism that it falls short of the democratic ideal according to which free, objective and scrupulous media inform the public on political decisions and issues, at the same time controlling the actors in the political sphere by insisting on the transparency of the political process and on the justification of its decisions to the public.
