Populations have doubled in many countries over the last 20-30 years. Now with new affluence and education of women both rates have dropped but have they dropped enough. With large number of women entering their child-bearing years we encounter population momentum the population of the world and particularly in areas like India Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America will continue to grow at alarming rates. The proportion of people in developing countries who live in cities has almost doubled since 1960 from less than 22 per cent to more than 40 per cent while in more developed regions the urban share has grown from 61 per cent to 76 per cent.
