This book, as the name implies, tells us the story of an elephant called Kari. The story of his growth and adventures, from the time he was six months old, is told with direct sincerity. The innate intelligence and the personality of a trained elephant is beautifully brought out. The story brings the reader face to face with creatures of the wild, in a way which is not only deeply interesting but also instructive and stimulating. The author has been singularly successful in conveying the sense of the shadow-haunted places, and the thrills of suspense and fear and joy which the wild animals experience in the vastness of a tropical jungle.
