This is a study of Subhash Chandra Bose and his attempts to forge a closer alliance with the Axis powers at the time of the Second World War. The book argues that they had a difficult relationship—one born out of necessity rather than out of common goals. Collating information from official records, diaries and military archives in European nationalism and Britain and India, it narrates the story of Subhash Chandra Bose—also called Netaji—in Europe. It presents a comprehensive account of the daily negotiations that took place between Bose and foreign offices, diplomats and double agents at the time, pointing out that the attempts resulted in his declaration of India’s independence and establishment of the first Indian army before 1947.
