This book examines the genesis and growth of lead banks and their role in poverty alleviation among rural women in India, with special reference to Andhra Pradesh. It analyses the performance of Syndicate Bank as a lead bank operating in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh, with particular focus on loans advanced to poor women, recovery of loans, overdues and financial profitability.

Finally, it assesses the impact of Syndicate Bank finance on the generation of additional income and employment among the women borrowers.
