The XX century saw the emergence of two theories, multinationalism and multiculturalism, to deal with issues of linguistic, ethnic, racial, religious diversities vis-a-vis nationhood and statehood. This hybrid volume brings together essays on multicultural theory and examines multiculturalism and multinationalism in relation to the Central Asian region in pre-Soviet, Soviet and post-Soviet times.
