The essays by Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer present his views on social and judicial issues of importance like judiciary in Kerala, dam safety and water use in the state, free legal aid to poor litigants, Hindu-Muslim unity, cultural degeneracy in sentencing policy. He provides his perspectives on controversial issues and those of contemporary relevance like same sex marriages and the sexual attacks on women in the country.

Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1973 where he played an important role in judicial activism, public interest litigation, affirmative action trough courts and a wide ranging exercise of judicial review. Honoured with several awards, he is the only judge on whom three doctoral theses have been written by scholars in different universities.
