Synopsis The book deals with nearly 1300 species of flowering plants possessing medicinal properties. These species are distributed throughout the state of Karnataka, which harbours one of the richest tropical forest areas in India. Supplemented with 50 colour photographs of important medicinal plants, this is the first volume of a series that will cover the entire country. Medicinal plants of India, Volume I Karnataka gives the botanical names of the species with nomenclature and family name. Brief description of the species with their important characteristics and their district-wise distribution in the state of Karnataka, along with their local names, is provided. The chemical constituents of these species and their general and medicinal uses, including their therapeutic properties are extensively elucidated. Further, it discusses the use of these species in Ayurveda and Siddha systems of medicine, highlighting a few important preparations in these systems.
