This book seeks to analyze the role of microfinance in the empowerment of women in India, with special reference to the state of Meghalaya. Assessing the various sources of investment in terms of microfinance for women self help group (SHG) members, it examines the group as well as individual activities of SHG-members, their empowerment in household economy, and its impact of their standard of living.

It further estimates the activity-wise returns on investment on group activities and explores the trends of saving pattern of the beneficiaries. It also takes stock of the constrains, faced by the women SHG-members, in groups activities.
