This book tries to analyze the various dimensions of regionalism in India, with special reference to the state of Karnataka. Trying to understand the problem of regional disparity in North Karnataka, it examines the role of elites in the development of a region and in influencing the process of political decision-making.

Further explaining the concept of underdevelopment, it describes in detail the classical and neo-classical theories of development. It also surveys the level of awareness among the elites about the state of Karnataka and the problem of developmental disparity in the North Karnataka.
