British Crown could find a foil in the East India Co. till 1858 when it had to assume direct control of the Indian Empire and its affairs. In this period of historic transition one Indian stands out-Prince Dwarkanath. A closely researched study of this man was long overdue. What was he like? How did he want to come to terms with the British? He pioneered everything a century ago. He failed and died in tragic circumstances. But, then, the British also failed which was even more tragic. They could have left us in 1947 very much more than what they actually did.
