Developing countries the world over, more specially of Asia, have of late been experiencing urbanization as never before. Not only are coming up many new towns, but even the existing ones are expanding phenomenally – leading to an unprecedented burden on the already meager resources. Bringing together specialists, academics and researchers, the 11th Asian Urbanization Conference considered the diversely ranged challenges that the ongoing phenomenon of urbanization throws up. This book carries the conference presentations in five thematically organized volumes, namely, Amenities and Facilities in Urban Areas, Facets of Urban Environment, Planning and Governance, Urbanization and Urban Growth, and Marginalization and Exclusion in Urban Spaces. The Conference was organized by the Department of Geography, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in collaboration with the US-based Asian Urban Research Association.
