The sixteen papers here revolve around exclusion and inclusion that are concerned with the twin objectives of social justice and good governance and alleviation of poverty and amelioration of the living conditions of weaker sections, minorities, women, children and rural masses. They deal with people’s participation at grassroots level and decentralisation that are necessary for development with dignity and development of inclusive policies. They examine socio-economic-political linkage of inclusive policies, inclusive approach in education looking into Dalit education and the ideology of Ambedkar, changing state of rural livelihoods and child immunisation. They take up specific communities and situations like social exclusion of criminal tribes with reference to the Lodhas of West Bengal, safe motherhood among tribal women, and the potential of the programme, MGNREGS, to address the agrarian crisis.
