This book attempts to address the critical issues concerning the AIDS epidemic in India, with special reference to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It focuses on the social dimensions of HIV/AIDS, the change in people’s attitude towards prophylactics, sexuality and homosexuality, and the main factors promoting AIDS in the state.

Tracing the history of AIDS, it discusses the symptoms of HIV infection, the modes of transmission of virus, misperceptions about HIV transmission, emergence and its socio- economic implications in Jammu and Kashmir, and policy of an effective media for preventing boom of this socio-biological syndrome. It also traces the evolution of various strategies and programmes employed by various state and civil agencies to eradicate or check it.
