This compendium of 48 papers, presented at a national seminar, held at the College of Post Graduate Studies, Central Agricultural University, Meghalaya, attempts to examine the agri-business potentials in India, with special reference to the North-East region. Taking a close look at the scenario of crop sector, it discusses at length the scope of diversification in horticulture, economics of integrated farming system, and production and marketing of paddy, maize, toria, chow-chow, fruits, pineapple, orange and rapeseeds.

It also deals with the cost cultivation of turmeric, marketing patterns of dairy products, development of rural institutions in dairy sector, production and marketing of fishery enterprise, economics and marketing of green leaf of tea, structure and conduct of important timber markets, problems and prospects of fruit and vegetable processing, and policy issues for sustainable growth of agriculture. A comparison of cost and returns in vegetable production makes part of the discussion as well.
