The book is focused on biodiversity conservation in the Indian context. Based on a national conference, it deals with laws and management strategies pertaining to forest reserves especially their effectiveness in conserving the biodiversity resources of the forest areas. With case studies from biosphere regions, marine regions and terrestrial regions, it emphasises on the involvement of the local people in conservations strategies for viable conservation especially in developing nations like India. Taking into account the overlapping of rich biodiversity zones and settlements of forest dwelling communities in these areas, it covers promotion of livelihood vis-à-vis conservation of biodiversity resources that will reduce pressure on forest resources as well.
