The volume provides a coherent picture of the geography of Jammu and Kashmir. Based on fieldwork and other findings, it gives a brief account of the political history of Jammu and Kashmir. It discusses the geological history with respect to the each of the three regions—Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The chapters cover in detail Jammu and Kashmir’s physical features, drainage, weather and climate referring to the three regions for their features. There is interpretation of the latest available climatic data of weather stations of the state and linking of the climatic conditions with the occupations of the people. The study of geology covers its stratigraphy from the pre-Cambrian to preset times. It views the stages of glaciations and inter-glacial epochs and their regional distribution focusing on events like formation of the Karewa Lake in Kashmir.
