This book examines the usefulness of Indian medicinal plants in the management of diabetes mellitus. It provides an insight of the disease from the point of view of Ayurveda, Unani and Allopathic systems of medicine.

Studying the rational use of plant drugs of traditional Indian system, it makes a systematic and planned evaluation of plant drugs. It also gives detailed information on various scientific aspects of twelve most important medicinal plants with all the work done on anti-diabetic activity and their use in the traditional systems of medicine. The twelve medicinal plants studied here include Aegle marmelos, Allium cepa, A. sativum, Azadirachta indica, Ficus benghalensis, F. religiosa, Gymnema sylvestre, Momordica charantia, Pterocarpus marsupium, Swertia chirayita, Syzygium cumini and Trigonella foenum-graecum.
