The volume discusses the history of sexual harassment at workplace; what constitutes an act of sexual harassment and how it is perceived, focusing on intent and impact of behaviour. Based on a study undertaken to understand the nature of gender inequality in Indian workplaces, specifically with a view to understanding the causes and processes of sexual harassment in organisations, it deals with forms and types of sexual harassment. It examines the perspectives put out by international organisations like the International Labour Organisation and international conventions such as Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace. There is a detailed study on the law of the land in prevention and redressal of sexual harassment in the workplace and its staff’s perspective on the issue, and importance of capacity building on issues of gender sensitivity and sexual harassment.
