This book makes a socio-cultural and political study of Charaideo, the first capital of the Ahoms. Locating its geology, soil, climate and topography, it describes in detail the advent of the Ahoms to the Brahmaputra Valley, their political history, their religious beliefs and practices, and the end of their rule.

Further it discusses the Ahom royalty—their powers, prerogatives and heaven born tradition. It also deals with gods and goddesses, mode of worship, rites and rituals, and the role played by the traditional Ahom priestly class. A discussion on the system of burial of Ahom royalty and the concept of death makes part of the book as well.
