The book delves into the features of legislations that exist for the welfare of women and the changes that have come in them over time. It deals with a number of issues relating to rights of Hindu women like their right to property, legal aid services to women, rights in the context of matrimonial disputes and remedies available to them. Based on a study of related laws, rules and underlying philosophy of the enactments, it argues that because of discrimination of the female child and women, enactment and judicial pronouncements have failed to produce the desired results. Citing Supreme Court judgements and Indian Acts, it stresses on the need for a social environment that could support the legislations enacted for uplifting women’s condition.
