Synopsis This is a study, not of Muslim law, but of the law of India relating to its Muslim citizens; and its focus is on the present-day statutory laws. All the statutory laws and provisions of India relating to, or having a bearing on, the Muslims--their religious affairs, religious and academic institutions and personal laws--have been covered in the book. These have been studied in their historical setting and analysed with reference to their position under the constitution of India and the true religio-legal principles of Islam. Judicial rulings on all these laws have been referred to and examined, with emphasis on those of recent years. This book offers a thorough study of all statutory provisions and case-law of India relating to, or having a bearing on, Muslims, their religion, religious and academic institutions and personal law. Central and local legislations and judicial rulings there under have been critically examined, in their historical setting, in the light of the Indian constitutional philosophy and the true Islamic teachings.
