Advances in Cardiology is a bold adventure by the editors. In the last few years, there has been enormous advances in many aspects of cardiology. However, only in a very few fields, there have been extraordinary advances. For example, there has been enormous progress in understanding of cardiovascular pharmacogenetics. New pharmacologic agents for treatment of dyslipidemia are being discovered almost every month. In the last 5–10 years, there has been a substantial progress in stem cell and gene therapy in cardiology.

A major advance has occurred in catheter-based vascular therapy, coronary artery, and aortic and valvular diseases. In this book, advances in these aspects of cardiology have been included. There has also been considerable progress in the device used for treatment of arrhythmias particularly of atrial fibrillation.
